Last last last night

Usually I do scheduled posting for this section of the blog, so much easier than sitting down everyday and posting manually, but I had to get these instagram photos out of this place, Goat Town !!! The fried oysters are a must and the cocktails are amazing. Thanks Lauren for taking me here.

Just one piece of glass

Custom cut square glass sheets, I like to use them for simple presentations like this, and then at the end you don’t have too many dishes. Today I had a friend come over for breakfast, and I so I asked her to try this lox bagel with some wasabi caviar, we both loved it!

Saveur Magazine

So I am all over the place when it comes food and fashion, I should just choose one, but maybe not..Anyway, if you have a chance vote for my recipe on Saveur Magazine. =) Happy Thursday.

Last night Wine O’ Clock

Some gifts Nicolette got me above..I’ll have to post about them later of course..haven’t had a chance to break open some of these..I asked her not to but she’s quite strong minded. Thanks so much!

You know how us ladies like to roll. Moderately priced super dry white wine from Trader Joe’s with some pricey Macarons. I have been there twice this past week, once before meeting a very special friend at a bar downtown (got her orange blossom and rose macarons) and once more to go with another dear friend (Nicolette Mason). My family requested macarons from there this weekend and Nicolette and I had been meaning to go together for ages so it was really the perfect timing. Make sure to check out Nicolette’s blog for beautiful photos, I swear it will put you in a good mood right away.

Spaetzle

Had a plate of Spaetzle before a nice long drive from upstate NY, remember my visit to that incredible whiskey factory. There is a nice german restaurant called the Brauhaus…Make sure to visit if you’re in the area.

Touched

Ah, look at this setup! This reader was inspired by my egg in a hole recipe, and posted her version on the Luxirare facebook wall. This is why I love technology and the internet. Yes so many bad sides to technology but so worth it for things like this. Allows us to share such things very quickly and efficiently. Miss Sharon, you did a beautiful job!

Last night I tried out this new sushi place with some friends despite my reservations about sushi/sashimi in NYC, in general I find most places below par (except for Jewel Bako and MASA) and OMEN was….mediocre…mediocre is synonymous to bad for me… Couldn’t even understand how all the tables were booked. Thank god the company was stellar, otherwise this dinner would have been pulling teeth.

Let’s also discuss the fact that they serve prix fixe dinners here starting at $85 and they are a cash only/AMEX joint. What? As far as I’m concerned if you’re going to charge you better be open to Visas and such. I understand if you don’t like Discover, but co’on! And honestly, the only place in NYC that is allowed to go cash only is SPAIN.

But things looked up the second half of the night, right across the street (literally 2 steps away) was Milady’s, possibly no..the best bar in Soho. We ordered Mozzarella sticks, tater tots, and chicken fingers. Delicious.

Trying to catch a cab, parka soaked

Enjoyed some amazing Paella last night at Spain, again. The seafood here is suspect but if you cared about that you wouldn’t be at Spain in the first place. This time with an old friend from Parsons, Chelsea, so nice going there with her because she and I used to go every single night after class. We sit at the same table all the time, felt so familiar. Wasn’t going to order Paella but Chelsea told me she hadn’t eaten all day! She’s a hustler too.

She and I are planning a collaboration of sorts, I kind of can’t wait!

Score

Yes yes yes! You will see what happens to this truffle later.

I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on, …3 days of nonstop hustling.. See you soon!

Listen, I don’t really like eating breakfast food during breakfast. I like to eat breakfast for dinner or something, midnight time is good, but only sometimes. In general I’m not a big waffles-pancake-morning sausage kind of person. For breakfast I actually like to eat pasta or something like that..and when I am in a rush I just drink one of those naked juice/shakes. For breakfast today I made small pulled pork sandwiches with pickled green peppers and truffle butter. Delicious.

Truffle butter that I use: Available Here.

An outtake from a while ago (shot by me). Ah, sorry about not updating on the main blog. Of course I want to be but I’m so busy right now. I’ll be back! Hope you guys are having a swell time visiting your families and going to holiday parties, or even going on your yearly vacations.

My secret joint

This is my absolute favorite spot in the city, it’s called SPAIN. My second home during my senior year of college (always came here after classes for some r&r), it’s this random restaurant/bar that’s kinda divey but not cool.. and the crowd is just so random that I walk in confused most of the time. Why I love it so much? …..well those fries with hot sauce and meatballs are complimentary so that’s great (that’s a rarity, who gets anything for free in New York City?), and it’s just the most comfortable bar in the world. There’s no cool scene here or skinny/attractive hipsters, it’s not like that at all, but it’s so chill. I shouldn’t really even be posting about this place because I don’t want my spot to be blown up. Every single friend I bring here tells their friends, and their friends tell their friends..etc…

Now I can’t let this post slide without some criticism, the waiters here are extremely pushy to the point of being rude, but you have to take the good with the bad right? If you don’t order a ton of drinks in a row, they get pissed and egg you on to leave. But all you do is give them a little bit of that ‘face’ to let them know your buttons will not be pushed. Tonight we ordered water and some food.

Heh, this image is from blackberryvision, but thanks guys for the kind words! Take note of the highlighted text.

Warmed

That feeling of being inside a super cozy, toasty little restaurant when it’s -20 degrees outside.. with the most amazing food, cocktails, and friends, I mean isn’t it the best ever?

Ideally Julia would be in this photo, but she isn’t cause she was taking this pic with my camera. So it’s just me and Nicolette, don’t forget to check Nicolette’s blog out! Not only is she gorgeous but she has lots of great pictures of food and fashion, just the way I like it. (To those of you who are friends with me on my personal facebook account, sorry you are seeing this photo again, ha.)

Brining some Turkey breast and leg meat. Didn’t get a whole Turkey this year, way too wasteful and nobody eats the leftovers. This year I’m going to be concise. Some crucial ingredients: Orange zest, Orange juice, Orange slices, and Vodka for the brine.

Been looking everywhere for this … It is really the most intensified truffle flavor. You can find a winter black truffle version here.
